The Weedkiller's daughter is set primarily in a Detroit suburb, ironically named Eden Hills, a place of manicured lawns tightly controlled with pesticides. Outside of town, the fields and ponds of a neighbor, Mrs. Nevels (or The Primitive, as she is called), are closer to Eden. She lives alone in the country, has a big garden, makes wine, and befriends Susie and her circle of friends.
